Sagmootea Tea Estate

The estate is named after a local resident Sakkhowa Bhuyan (Sag eating Bhuyan) who was given this name by the then Ahom King, Dodadhar Singha, when he learnt that Sakkhowa Bhuyan and his family lived off Ferns and Colacasia plants. He offered him a plot of land and called it Sakomotha, which is now known as Sagmootea. The oldest section was planted in 1935.
