The estate is named
after a local resident Sakkhowa Bhuyan (Sag eating
Bhuyan) who was given this name by the then Ahom King,
Dodadhar Singha, when he learnt that Sakkhowa Bhuyan
and his family lived off Ferns and Colacasia plants.
He offered him a plot of land and called it Sakomotha,
which is now known as Sagmootea. The oldest section
was planted in 1935.
