In the olden days the Muduvan tribals used to gather at this estate for getting fair justice to their problems and hence the place came to be known as Nyamakad.

Adjoining Nyamakad Estate is Eravikulam National Park which is one of the most famous tourist spots in the country. The endangered Nilgiri tahr and the Kurinji plant which flowers once in twelve years are found in this national park.

The National Park falls in between the Estate and the Rajamallay Division. Rajamallay originally was an estate by itself, which got amalgamated with Nyamakad Estate in 1964 to become one Estate.

Rajamallay Division has a large extent of forest area. There is a hatchery for Rainbow Trout fish, where breeding is done and thereafter the fingerlings are used to stock the various lakes in Munnar for the active anglers in the district.

The other interesting places in Rajamallay is the suicide point famously known by the planters of the district as 'Director's Leap', The other place is the famous Gravel banks and the hut which is a paradise for those who are interested in Angling and even for those who just want to come and be one with nature.
