Chokanad estate derives it name, as it is situated in the plain of Chokanadasamy hills. Planting operations here were believed to have been started around 1900. First with coffee and later switched on to tea, the former being not economical. The estate is situated at a height of 4800 MSL and receives an average of 110 inches rainfall annually. It enjoys the benefit of South-West and North-East rainfall. The estate factory was built in 1904 for Orthodox manufacture and in 1978-79 was converted to CTC manufacture. During 1997-98 Chokanad harvested a record crop of 3412 kg/ha which is the highest among high range estates so far. The estate takes a lot of pride as the source for the new clone TTL-2. On the estate is also located the High Range Club & Ramaswamy Iyer Head Works which is the tunnel inlet for the Pullivasal Hydro Electric Project which was first its kind in Kerala. On the eastern side in Kolamankai Division is the famous Ladbroke House.
