Opened in 1883 by Mr. C.W.W. Martin and Mr. Aylner Ffulke Martin. Chittavurrai becomes one of the oldest estates of the High Range. Tea was later planted in the year 1898 with mostly China Jat, situated at an altitude of 6000 feet and having a foot in Tamil Nadu Chittavurrai enjoys mostly Tamil Nadu climate. The annual rainfall in this estate is around 45 - 50 inches. Chittavurrai has an Orthodox factory with a capacity of 11,880 kgs. Chittavurrai estate is the only estate in High Range sprawled over two states Kerala & Tamil Nadu.
This is the first Tata Tea estate under conversion to Organic Tea Cultivation.
